Santander Church
The first evangelical congregation in Cantabria was established in its capital, Santander. The Drost family (Verner and Betty) is sent from Canada by the evangelical Atlantic Mission to launch this project. Thus, in 1981, the first place of worship with the name Centro Cristiano Nueva Vida was inaugurated, at number 96 Cisneros Street.
In 1983, Julio García Celorio and Elisabet Justamante Belda will be the first Spanish pastors to take charge of the congregation after being ordained pastors.
Since then, one of the greatest efforts has been directed at the socialization of the evangelical movement. Although Spain is historically Christian and, therefore, its culture has a strong religious component, evangelical churches are not widely accepted. This is mainly due to the great lack of knowledge that exists towards the Protestant movement and, especially, towards the evangelical school.
Evangelical churches preach the gospel of Christ as the son of God who was born of Mary, the virgin, and who died on Calvary for the sins of men and women. He that he rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and will return to judge the living and the dead until the end of time... Furthermore, he maintains that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and people.
The basis of evangelical faith is the Bible as a source of revelation and believes in free examination, not free interpretation. It seeks for people to know the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior and to enjoy a relationship with him. Seek communion in community so that people help each other, believing in unity in diversity. And it understands that the commitment of individuals and the community must be based on the principle of social justice, therefore, it will always seek to respond to the needs of our neighbors as part of the service to God. In the words of Jesus: “You will love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself.”
Our church is evangelical by tradition, it seeks in liturgical history the way to serve the Lord as the apostles left us, and it is charismatic, that is, it believes in the ability of believers to spiritually build up the Christian community, a gift endowed by the Holy Spirit and that is valid today.
